Be Online and Stay Safe (BOSS)

The Be Online and Stay Safe (BOSS) project was a partnership between Leeds Older People’s Forum and 100% Digital Leeds, delivered between March and December 2023. Leeds Older People’s Forum has produced suite of resources to help tutors, learners and organisations with their digital inclusion courses and programmes. Topics include online safety, emailing, using google translate and health literacy.

The UK Safer Internet Centre 

A great place to find out how to stay safe online. They have produced lots of useful guides that are child-friendly but useful for all.

The National Cyber Security Centre 

Advice for information and families including straight forward advice on common cyber problems like being hacked, receiving suspicious emails, and malware, how to ensure devices are secure, and safe use of social media. 

Get Safe Online 

Practical advice on how to protect yourself, your computers and mobiles device and your business against fraud, identity theft, viruses and many other problems encountered online. The site contains guidance on many other related subjects too – including performing backups and how to avoid theft or loss of your computer, smartphone or tablet,  safe online shopping, gaming and dating. Also a checklist guide for those new to the internet and a series of videos covering key topics. 

Citizens Advice

The Citizens Advice consumer service provides help and advice on scams. This includes helping people understand the types of scams there are and how to avoid them, and what to do if they become involved with one.

Friends Against Scams 

A National Trading Standards Scams Team initiative, which aims to protect and prevent people from becoming victims of scams by empowering people to take a stand against scams. They offer free scam prevention online training

Action Fraud 

The national fraud and cyber crime reporting centre, including an A-Z of online fraud and scams, reporting cyber crime, and a chat function for tailored support. 

Age UK eSafety guide for older people  

Covering advice on online shopping, health scams, relationship scams etc. Also available as a printable PDF guide.
